10 Commandments of Jam

Derek Trucks on Duane Allman’s Gold Top

Legendary slide guitarist and former member of the Allman Brothers Band, Derek Trucks, gives us the 10 Commandments of Jam or 10 rules for being part of a successful jam session. Though Derek’s history is with jam bands I feel these are good points to observe when you are playing with other people or even playing by yourself.

You can see the article here!

Of course his last commandment is arguably the most important and applicable to any type of player:

Make sure you mean what you’re doing.
Do what you want and love. If you’re playing with somebody, you might as well do it right. No matter what the gig, dig in and go to town.

Live long, prosper, and jam away friends!
