Announced on his website, Jake Shimabukuro will be releasing a new album titled Travels this upcoming October 9th. Travels will include, “the evolution of the instrument, so I’m going to be recording traditional Hawaiian pieces and doing some really ‘out there’ stuff,” says Shimabukuro in a Q&A with Honolulu Magazine. The announcement also goes as far to say that included will be a cover of I’ll Be There by the Jackson 5 and Low Rider by War which will feature rare vocals from Jake himself. As with his previous two releases (Peace, Love, Ukulele and Grand Ukulele), a songbook by Hal Leonard will also be released featuring tabs and standard notation for the arrangements.
This also means Jake will be on tour again this next year with dates already on his website. Unfortunately he wont be stopping in Eugene this year and you will have to make the drive up to Washington in late October where he will be playing two shows with one in Bellingham and one in Wenatchee.
Being an avid Jake fan from his Pure Heart days, I am always excited to hear what Jake has coming out next and love to see how he changes from album to album. He seems to never disappoint and is still always best served live.
